The name ‘Padparadscha’ is derived from the Sinhalese word for lotus blossom (Padma raga), reflecting its extraordinary colour: a delicate yet vivid blend of pink and orange that seems to capture a tropical sunset or the inner glow of a lotus flower.

The gem must display both pink and orange simultaneously, in perfect balance — too pink and it becomes a pink sapphire; too orange and it becomes an orange sapphire. Only specimens from Sri Lanka (Ceylon), Madagascar, and very rarely Tanzania achieve the coveted true Padparadscha colour. • Ideal finger: Index finger or ring finger of the right hand
